AM 1330 WELW BACK AS THE FLAGSHIP HOME OF LAKE COUNTY CAPTAINS RADIO BROADCASTS
Lake County Captains logo(Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County Captains, the Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, will once again have AM 1330 WELW as its flagship radio home in 2010.  WELW has been the flagship in seven of the Captains eight seasons and in 2010, the station will air all regular and post-season Captains games with the exception of Sunday games.  ESPN 970 WFUN and 102.5 FM WZOO will be affiliate stations on the Captains Radio Network.

“We are very excited about the new structure of the radio network once again led by the station that has been with us since day one, WELW.  The two affiliates will also continue to allow fans throughout Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula Counties to enjoy Captains baseball on the radio this season”, Captains VP and General Manager Brad Seymour explained.  “This is a great scenario for our fans all the way around.”

"WELW Radio is very pleased to return as the official flagship of the Lake County Captains. We have been a part of the Captains experience since their very first game, and we proudly continue this eight-year broadcast tradition as we celebrate our own 45th year serving our community, "WELW President Ray Somich said.

ESPN 970 will carry the majority of the games as well, with Magic Oldies 102.5 carrying select games. “Media One Group looks forward to continuing our partnership in 2010 with the Lake County Captains” Media One General Manager Dan Schulte said.  “We are happy to be utilizing our all-sports station, ESPN 970 WFUN which has one of the most powerful AM daytime signals.  WFUN will be able to bring exciting Minor League baseball to our North Coast listeners from Cleveland, Erie, Youngstown, and everywhere in between.”

Craig Deas will return as the “Voice of the Captains”.  Deas is in his eighth year with the franchise and will call all the Captains home games and select road games. Kevin Rhomberg will return with Deas for his third year in the broadcast booth for the Captains home games.

Brian LaRiche, a Mayfield native, will handle the majority of the road broadcasts.  This is LaRiche’s first season with the Captains and his second in professional baseball.  He spent last season in Norwich, Connecticut with the Connecticut Defenders, the AA affiliate for the San Francisco Giants.  He attended school at Ohio University where he covered Bobcats Football and Basketball as well as Athens County High School sports for an Athens radio station.  LaRiche will also serve as the public address announcer for all Captains home games.
