 Dear Type O Blood Donor:
We need your help.. Although every blood type is important, Type O donors play a critical role in maintaining blood supplies at hospitals in your community.
Some important O facts.
- Almost half of all blood ordered daily by northern Ohio hospitals is type 0.
- O positive blood is found in 36% of all blood donors, yet the hospital demand for this type of blood is 42%.
- Patients with type 0 Mood must receive type O blood.
- Only 6% of all people have O negative blood. Because this type is so uncommon, it is difficult to maintain an adequate supply. This means that every hospital, no matter how small or large, needs to have a supply of O negative blood at all times.
- O negative Mood is the preferred type for babies, needing exchange transfusions and for women of childbearing age who must receive blood in emergency situations.
