Heart-Heathy Chili - Alice Kuhar's Recipes

HEART-HEALTHY CHILI
|
Ingredients:
3/4 cup dried kidney beans
|
3 'zups water
|
1 lb- lean ground beef
|
1/2 cuP chopped onion
|
1/2 cuP chopped graen pepper
|
1 (1 lb.) can tomatoes, chopped
|
1 (6 oz.) can salted tomato paste
|
3/4 cup water
|
1 tablespoon chili powder
|
1/2 teaspoon oregano
|
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
|
1/8 teaspoon pepper
|
1 bay leaf
|
|
Directions:
Place beans and 3 cups water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook for 2 minutes. Set aside for 1 hour without draining. Return beans to heat and simmer for I hour or until beans are tender. Drain beans and set aside. Brown ground beef, onion and green pepper together. Pour off fat. Add kidney beans and remaining ingredients. Simmer over low heat l- 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. Remove bay leaf before serving. Serves 6. 205 calories per serving
