Food and Cooking Hints and Tips

FOOD AND COOKING HINTS AND TIPS
REMOVING CABBAGE LEAVES FOR STUFFED CABBAGE
Traditional way: Cut out the core of the cabbage, then place the entire head in boiling water, let cook a few minutes, remove the cabbage, drain, pull off the leaves that have softened, return the cabbage to the water, and repeat until you have all the softened leaves you need. (You may put a couple of lemon wedges in the pot so the kitchen doesn't reek of cabbage odors)
Another way: Place cabbage head in a plastic bag; freeze overnight, and the next day, thaw. The leaves will be pliable and easy to pull off without breaking.

EASIEST AND BEST TASTING BARBECUE SAUCE EVER
(from Joe & Phyllis Fedorchak)
Mix together Diet Coca Cola and any brand of Catsup.

TO STRETCH AND MAKE CREAMIER FROSTING
To a can of prepared Cream Cheese frosting add- 8 ounce package of cream cheese at room temperature Place soft cream cheese in a bowl and beat for a time. Add the can of frosting and beat together. This will be enough to frost a 9x13-inch cake For a smaller among, just use 1/2 (4 oz.) cream cheese and 1/2 can frosting.

REMOVE EXCESS FAT
Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar to the fat in which you are going to deep fry. It will keep the food from absorbing too much fat and eliminate a greasy taste.

RIPEN AVOCADOS
by burying them in a bowl of flour.

PEEL TOMATOES
Refrigerate tomatoes. Hod tomato firmly and scrape with the dull side of a paring knife from the bottom to the top several times. Prick the skin with the point of the knife, then proceed to peel.

MEAT LOAF
will not stick to baking pan if you place a slice of bacon on the bottom of the pan-

GET CATSUP OUT OF THE BOTTLE
Insert a drinking straw, push it to the bottom of the bottle, and then remove. Enough air will be admitted to start an even flow.

HAMBURGERS IN A HURRY
Poke a hole in the center when shaping. The center will cook quickly and when the hamburgers are done the holes are gone.

REMOVE CORN SILK
Dampen a paper towel or terry cloth and brush downward
on the cob of corn. Every strand should come off.
