After leading one of Lake County’s dealerships to be the largest-seller of its brand in the country, Pat O’Brien is back in the automobile business, with the new Pat O’Brien Chevrolet in Willoughby Hills. After 26 years in the car industry, Pat came out of retirement to purchase the former Tony LaRiche Chevrolet, a business with its own 56-year tradition.
Pat leads his dealership with his son Patrick, Jr., and son-in-law Mike Campola, along with their staff of sales, finance, and service professionals. Many of the staff were LaRiche employees, and several were with Pat in his previous dealership, and were anxious to rejoin his team. Pat, who with his wife has four children and 14 grandchildren, considers his staff to also be his family, and insists that their customers are treated this same way.
Pat O’Brien credits his previous success primarily to “Up front pricing”, which means that every new and used car has a discounted price pre-calculated on the windshield. This unique approach eliminates stress and intimidation during the buying process. Customers never have to worry if they are getting the best price, because it’s pre-established, and it’s the same one for everybody on each particular vehicle. Seniors and women especially appreciate the comfortable buying environment that “up front pricing” creates. “You shouldn’t have to negotiate to buy a car,” Pat O’Brien says. “Can you imagine if you had to negotiate every time you go to a grocery store?”
Pat O’Brien has already made extensive renovations, and more are planned in their facilities, which includes outdoor and indoor display areas, parts and service departments, and body shop. They average 500 new and used cars at any time, giving their customers one of the area’s largest vehicle selections.
