Eddie Bucar - WELW Hall of Fame

For more than 40 years, Eddie Bucar has performed with many of the top name polka bands from 1950 thru 1991, such as the Frankie Urankar Orchestra for 11 years, The Ray Champa Band for 9 years, as well as the Joe Luzar Aggregation for 12 years. Eddie was also instrumental along with Jimmy Udovic in forming the first original Stanley Blout Band and playing three years with Stanley. In 1969 Eddie joined George Staidahar and cut the first Staiduhar album "Polkas On The Slope" as well as being on several of the TV Shows.

As side man bass player, appeared with Bob Timko, Kenny Bass, Johnny Pecon, Richie Vadnal, Johnny Vadnal, Markic and Zaggar and many more. Eddie had the distinct pleasure of playing in the Orchestra Pit for the stage productions of "Pajama Game" and "That's Entertainment" for the Mt. Carmel Players.

Eddie Bucar has been entertaining Cleveland area audiences with polkas, waltzes and Big Band favorites at WELW Radio for the past 33 years, and also a polka musician, upright bass player for 41 years playing with many of the top name bands

Bucar began his radio broadcast career at WELW (1330 AM) in Willoughby, Ohio in January 1968 with Kenny Bass who introduced Eddie on the air and also trained him.

Eddie originated and produced the Croatian Show and also the Sunday Morning International Polka Show which is currently on the air for the past 33 years and now hosted by his son Dale. In 1969 Eddie originated the daily Supper Hour Polka Show, also in 1985 hosted the "Coffee Club" for 16 years.

Throughout the years, Eddie has received numerous awards recognizing his professional and community accomplishments, including " 1982 Man Of The Year" from the Croatian Community, A Gold Record from Cleveland International Records given by Steve Popovich, and in 1986 "Musician Of The Year" form the Slovenian Society.

Eddie Bucar is a United States Navy Veteran of World War Two and served in the Pacific Theater Of War aboard the USS YMS 446 Mine Sweeper. Eddie also received on May 9th 1996 a Special Commendation from the United States Department Of Defense, in recognition of Special Service, Loyalty, and Contribution to the United States Of America during World Two, also a Commendation from the Veterans Department in working with their Mustard Gas Project in 1944.

In 1991, Eddie along with his sons, Denny and Dale captured the "Support and Promotion Award" in the Cleveland Style Polka Hall Of Fame.

Eddie Bucar in 1991 went into the WELW Radio Hall Of Fame.

In 1994, Eddie was Inducted into the "National Broadcasters Hall Of Fame" in Akron, Ohio in the "Quaker Square Hilton " along with "Liberace", "Edward R. Murrow","Jimmie Dudley" "Frankie Yankovic" and our good friend "Johnny Krizancic". Eddie was also honored along with Johnny Krizancic by the "Polka Radio Club" of the Youngstown and Penna. Area.
